I Screwed Up…….
…… in this week’s newsletter I mentioned that the Home Buyers Association offers help to single moms looking for a home. It seems I was a bit misleading and used the wrong name. It’s called the Home Buyers Assistance Foundation and it does offer similar programs. See www.hbaf.org. They have an unflattering note about our mistake on their web site. I’m sorry about the problem to all who were affected.

30% Increase In Small Business Money…..
..… the U.S. Small Business Administration was running out of available cash for entrepreneurs until Congress increased their budget in an emergency piece of legislation so the SBA can keep on giving. 100% Increase In Those Getting $10,000 For Job Training…..
…… .66% of the new jobs created are a result of new technology and 60% of the new jobs in the US will require higher education but only 33% of the workforce has higher education. Home Grants Program up to $10,000……
…… this is a non-repayable grants/gifts program available to first-time homeowners to cover down payment and closing costs. Also provided are free Homebuyer Education Courses, free Balanced Budget Spending Plans, free Credit Counseling Services as well as Post Purchase and Homeownership Maintenance Counseling to any resident in North Carolina. Income is not a limiting factor; however, all applicants are required to take the two educational courses provided by Home Grants. In order for a grant recipient to use Home Grants’ funds, they must be approved for an acceptable loan product that permits charitable organizations to provide gift funds. Grant Giving To Increase Up To 10% in 2004….
…… .that’s what the Foundation Center expects major foundations will be giving out in 2004 after decreasing their giving in 2003 by 4.7%. It Pays To Have Your Own Business......
…… a new report by the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University shows that our country has just come out of a recession. In every past recession since WWII the amount of extra money the economy made was split in the following way: about 61% went to wages for employees and about 24% went to corporate profits and income to small business owners. In the most recent recovery in 2002 and 2003, only 38% went to employee wages and 52% went to small business owners and corporate profits. Single Parents Pay Only 1% For New Home…..
… ..gift down payments are provided for first-time homebuyers or for those families who have grown and need a larger home. Emphasis is placed on single mothers and first-time homebuyers. There are no income, asset or citizenship requirements in the qualification process; however, the home must be used as the primary residence and homebuyers must attend the free counseling and education classes offered by the program. Up to 7.5% of the purchase price is available for down payment costs or other costs associated with the purchase of the home. This is a nationwide organization. Women with the desire to start or expand their own businesses can look to Women Entrepreneurs of Baltimore, Inc. (WEB) for the knowledge and resources needed to succeed. Elements of their Business Skills Training Course include financing strategies, business skills education, internet and computer use, community networking, government certification, and legal and tax requirements. Participants receive mentoring, business consultations, and additional resource referrals as part of the package. Applicants are prescreened to ensure that they have both a viable business idea and the "entrepreneurial spirit" necessary for success. Participants must attend 12 weeks of training, write a business plan, and intend to start a business before or within nine months after training is completed. For a year, graduates receive free technical assistance, resources, and support from staff and WEB's extensive network of volunteers. WEB also helps clients finance their ventures – assisting in the preparation of loan application packages for loans up to $250,000 and finding an appropriate lender.
