Go On A Free Archeological Dig
The Lesko’s went on an archeological dig in Alaska and and you can too! Passport in Time is a volunteer archaeology and historic preservation program of the USDA Forest Service. You work with professionals on projects including archaeological excavation, rock art restoration, gathering oral histories, and more. Volunteers have helped stabilize ancient cliff dwellings in New Mexico, excavate a 10,000-year-old village site in Minnesota, restore a historic lookout tower in Oregon, clean vandalized rock art in Colorado, survey for sites in a rugged Montana wilderness, and excavate a 19th-century Chinese mining site in Hell’s Canyon, Idaho. Free Presidential Honors For Deceased Veteran Friends
You can help commemorate the honor of a deceased veteran by requesting a Presidential Memorial Certificate, a parchment certificate with a calligraphic inscription expressing the nation’s recognition of the veteran’s service. The veteran’s name is inscribed and the certificate bears the signature of the president. Eligible recipients include next of kin, other relatives and friends. For those who spent their military years on a ship or in service to the navy, pictures are available to help you remember those exciting times. The U.S. Naval Institute has over 450,000 photographs chronicling the Navy’s ships, battles, and major events. Ship name, hull number, and year of service are helpful in searching for prints. If you request a photo of a ship, make sure to ask for a free two-page history of the vessel to be included with the picture. The National Archives and Records Administration has many historical documents on their web site in the online exhibit hall. For example, you can see a picture of the first meeting between Elvis and President Nixon, and also a letter written from the king (Elvis) to President Nixon. You might also wish to look over the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, or the Bill of Rights. Create Your Family Tree
Tracing your family history has been made much easier with the creation of the American Immigration Family History Center at Ellis Island. Once you get to the website at www.ellisisland.org, all you need to do is create a user name and password, then you can conduct passenger searches. By typing in a last name, you will find all the names from ship passenger logs that matched. The passenger’s name, country of origin, age, and date of arrival are shown to help you create your family tree. You can then purchase the ship logs online. It couldn’t be easier!

Get Baseball Card From Ty Cobb
The Library of Congress has a vast list of photos, articles, sound bites, and much more from history all at your fingertips. You can go to their web site and find a baseball card from the 1913 New York Giants team. How about a 1910 card of Ty Cobb along with his stats? American Memory is the Library of Congress’ collection of the history of the culture of the United States.
