I
didn’t get the
courage to wear question mark suits until
about 8 years ago in my early 50s. Now I
wish I did it 30 years ago. My suits have
nothing to do with some grand marketing strategy
or in creating a brand. It was just a result
of boredom. Life can be boring and mundane
if you don’t work at trying to make
it exciting. If no one is going to throw
a party for you, you have to throw one yourself.
Wearing
these suits has changed my life. People
smile at me when I walk into a room, even
if
they don’t know me from the TV commercials.
It gets me free upgrades on the airlines. I
get better service at hotels, restaurants and
bars. For the first time in my life pretty
girls come up and talk to me. Where were they
years ago when I had a lot more hormones?
It’s not only what it does for me but
what it does to other people. It makes people
nicer. It lightens their day. I feel that
I can walk into the toughest biker bar at
2 am
and still feel secure. The suit just seems
to melt people. As a result it makes me nicer,
because everyone is kinder to me.
But
I’m
still the same guy who flunked English in
college, got picked last on the
basketball team, and couldn’t get a
date with any of the cheerleaders in high
school. |
