The
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
is
urging those interested in helping victims of the apparent terrorist events
to give blood or cash donations. Those interested in giving blood should
call the American Red Cross blood donation hotline, at 1-800-448-3543.
The American Red Cross can accept cash donations through 1-800-HELP NOW,
and the Salvation Army can accept financial contributions through 1-800-SAL
ARMY. Persons who wish to donate their services should contact their local
American Red Cross office. FEMA does not accept donations, but works closely
with volunteer agencies that provide a wide variety of services after
emergencies, including childcare, crisis counseling, sheltering and food.

Groups Needed at JFK Airport
Cross-Cultural Solutions is an independent, non-religious, nonprofit organization
that employs volunteer humanitarian action to empower local communities,
foster cultural sensitivity and understanding, and contribute grassroots
solutions to the global challenges of providing health care, education,
and social development. They need groups of about 15 - 20 volunteers per
day throughout the month of October to work from 9am to 5pm at JFK Airport,
sorting through the many Salvation Army donations (food, clothing) that
people have sent to help with the disaster. *In an effort to minimize
administrative work, Cross-Cultural Solutions asks that only pre-formed
groups (businesses, places of worship, clubs, etc.) apply to volunteer.

face-to-face interviews with individuals seeking emergency financial assistance
and other help. Listen to stories, identify and record immediate financial
needs, discuss cases with senior staff members and assemble paperwork
to process assistance checks. Volunteers must commit to one weekday shift

Air Patrol Volunteers Needed in NY
The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the civilian volunteer auxiliary of the
United States Air Force and is charged with inland search and rescue of
lost aircraft, civilian and military. They also are involved in humanitarian
services/disaster relief, Aerospace Education of the people of the United
States and Cadet (Teen) training in all the above areas, including communications,
navigation, aerospace history, flight, first aid, etc. CAP is looking
for volunteers over the age of 21, who wish to give support in cadet training
and/or provide ground or air support on search and rescue missions. Candidates
must not have a felony record and submit fingerprint card to FBI database.

Needed to Work With Grieving Children
The Healing Center is a unique support group program for grieving children
ages 5-12 who have experienced the death of a parent, sister, brother
or significant other. The Healing Center staff believes that every child
deserves the right to grieve and express their pain in a safe and supportive
space. Volunteers are needed to facilitate children's support groups,
play, interact and support grieving children. Volunteers will receive
training and support and must be willing to commit to the hours of 5:30-9:00

Liaison Volunteer Needed in NYC Hospital
St. Lukes Roosevelt Hospital, located westside of Manhattan, is committed
to providing outstanding health care to the New York City community as
well as sponsoring quality education for health care professionals and
research to advance medical knowledge. St. Lukes is currently looking
for volunteers to assist families of surgical patients and hospital staff.
Volunteers are needed to create and maintain a line of communication between
hospital staff and family members, provide information on operating room
scheduling, & direct family members to the cafeteria, phones, chapel,
and neighborhood resources. Volunteers must be 21 years of age, detail-oriented,

The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, Inc. (TAPS) provides services
at no cost to military members and families who have lost a loved one
on active duty in the military. TAPS provides services throughout the
United States and across international borders. These services are available
to grieving survivors 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Their mission
is to bring hope, stability and healing in times of emotional and financial
chaos. With the assistance of volunteers, TAPS provides a helping hand
to guide the survivor through military channels to apply for survivor
benefits and arrange for a proper military burial, to receive counseling
